Loss

Dear friends had the loss of a child and a parent in the same few months. The grief was deep and dark. At times was without hope. This piece is to honor the pain and darkness that they went through. The little bit of green was to remember the life that was and the future life to come. It may sound bizarre or absurd. But death feels like that. Loss is loss. Sad is sad.

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me . . ." Psalm 23:4

Confessional

This painting is a memory from elementary school. My friend, Erin, lived with a challenging mother. The evenings were upsetting and the mornings were filled with pancakes and "I'm sorry". This picture mingles smoke, syrup and wine in the same way life can mingle regret, love and hurt.

"Truth is everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for." Bob Marley

Marionette

Societies desire to control women's bodies and their offspring. The clothesline harkening back to a time when women had time to do such things as hang laundry. But also to acknowledge that this desire of others to control women's bodies has been since the beginning. A time that should be joyful can instead be scary and weighty.
