Bio

I am a Christian, artist, wife, mother, middle aged, white, middle class (maybe - not sure about all the criteria to fit this demographic). These are all of the census boxes I can check. But who I am is an observer, sensitive person (annoyingly so), creative maker of art both functional (tables, shelving, etc) and aesthetic (painting, woodworking, etc). These coupled with my life experiences have created a world view that you will see in my art. I use art to process things I’ve experienced, observed, wrestled with and don’t understand. I deeply believe in the healing power of art in a world that often feels hard and confusing.

My art is everything from whimsical animal drawings to social commentary on society's treatment of women and children. In all of it I experience more of who God is and how to live honestly in the tension of paradoxical emotions and life experiences. Some of my work is just meditating on a single word and trying to make sense of it such as hope, love, grief and loss.

Some more details: I’ve lived in Philadelphia for the past 20 years. So I think I can safely say I’m a Philadelphian now (but I’m sure some will argue this point). I am not a professionally trained artist but I’m not sure I’d say that I am self trained. I had great art teachers as a child and have taken classes over the years at great institutions such as University of the Arts, Moore college of art and design and Fleisher Art Memorial. But to ‘pay the bills’ I’ve done various jobs: admin, realtor, book keeping, cleaning, etc.
